A complete fine-tune of Gemma-3-1B for Bangla news summarization — all 999,885,952 parameters, trained on a free Kaggle T4 at 14.61 GB of 15.
chrF++ against the untouched base model on 200 held-out XL-Sum articles, and ROUGE-L from 8.23 to 11.43. Summary length fell from 46 words to 34, against a 23-word reference. A lead-3 extractive baseline still scores 26.02 chrF++, which this model does not beat — the table below says so.

Lead-3 copies the first three sentences of the article. On news it is famously hard to beat, and this model does not beat it on chrF++ — though it does on ROUGE-L, and it writes summaries a third the length. Both baselines are shown because quoting only the weaker one would be the easy and dishonest choice.

Limitations
Abstractive summarizers hallucinate. This one can state facts, numbers and names the article does not contain, and chrF cannot detect that — a fluent invented sentence scores well. Read the summary against the article before using it.
Trained on BBC Bangla news only. Social media, legal text and conversation are out of distribution. Greedy decoding throughout; sampling increases hallucination.
